The Foreign Press Association announced the shortlist for its 2011 Media Awards this morning. We’re delighted to see three Prospect writers on the list for articles they’ve written for us in the last year. Here are the shortlisted entries:

Sam Knight’s “Lot 800: the Bainbridge vase” is in the running for “Arts & Culture Story of the Year.” The story of an antique Chinese vase, found in a house clearance in Pinner and sold for £43m in a small auction room, was a suburban fairytale. But was it also too good to be true?

Three years on from the collapse of Lehman Brothers, John Kay argues that we missed an opportunity to reform the world’s financial system. His article, “A good crisis gone to waste,” has been shortlisted in the “Financial/Economic Story of the Year” category.

When Jack Shenker and Jason Larkin travelled to Karakalpakstan, they found the people of the central Asian nation of being driven out by two of the 21st-century’s biggest challenges—ecological disaster and resurgent nationalism. Their story “Exodus” has made the shortlist for “Environment Story of the Year.”
