For those who are already sick of Christmas, here’s an unabashed alternative. Robin Ince is the ringmaster of this circus of science, comedy and music, which sets out to prove that godlessness need not equal joylessness. It features a variety of acts including Josie Long, Matt Parker and Helen Czerski, with proceeds going to a number of charities, including St Mungo’s. The marketing spiel hints at merry rationalism aplenty: “Hopefully, you will leave with a song in your heart (technically, it won’t be your heart. If it is your heart, that might be evidence of a murmur)…”

Imperial Fringe: Walking in the Air

An estimated 40,000 people die early in the UK every year due to air pollution, it was reported last month. This is one of the harder-hitting topics covered at this evening event, designed to showcase the college’s research into the invisible gases that surround us. But you can breathe easy: there is a lighter side to things. Visitors will get to enter a supersonic wind tunnel, hold a cloud in their hands—and find out whether Christmas really does change the atmosphere.
