Prospect has hired Ellen Halliday, reporter and assistant editor at Tortoise, to be its new co-deputy editor.
The leading monthly magazine of ideas and writing has created a new role for Halliday, working alongside Sameer Rahim, who has been promoted from managing editor.
Halliday has been at Tortoise for 18 months after a career that has included freelancing from Brussels, London and Italy. She was the 2018 Nico Colchester Fellow at the Economist magazine, covering European affairs. At Tortoise she has specialised in climate change and democracy. Her role has encompassed events; helping to edit the Tortoise Quarterly; data journalism projects; commissioning and writing; and podcasts.
Alan Rusbridger, editor of Prospect, said: “Ellen is clearly a journalist with an exciting future ahead of her. She has a great range of editorial talents and we were so impressed with her ideas, energy and editing skills. We are thrilled that she is joining Prospect as it moves to a new phase of expansion across print, digital, audio and events.”
Halliday said: “I am delighted to be joining Prospect at this exciting moment in the magazine's history. It is a real honour to become part of such a talented team, and I can't wait to get started."
