Under the radar

Publicity for An Lanntair, the new £5.3m arts centre in Stornaway, has focused on its cinema (the first in the Western Isles) but the gallery is also worth a look. In the Sail Loft project, on now, local and international artists explore Stornaway's links with the Baltic ports.

Sybille Berger's bold, striped paintings should contrast beautifully with the pale calm of Kettle's Yard, Cambridge, from 26th November.

In the late 1970s, Henry Moore collaborated with the West Dean tapestry studio to create an extraordinary series of tapestries which "translate" his sculptures into cloth. The New Art Centre, Salisbury, shows them from 19th November.

Ahead of Sam West's more controversial offerings at Sheffield comes a less challenging production— Promises, Promises, based on Billy Wilder's The Apartment and opening in the Crucible on 1st December.

Set in postwar Serbia, Hajdana Baletic's Dead Man's Coat is the second play in a Balkans-themed season at the Blue Elephant Theatre, London, from17th November.

Japanese pianist Hiroaki Takenouchi kicks off his 24th November concert in Fresh, the young musicians' platform at London's Purcell Room, with a rarely performed piece by Nikolay Karlovich Medtner.
