During his lifetime, industrialist and philanthropist Joseph Rowntree witnessed sweeping economic and social shifts. A century after his death, we find ourselves in another era of profound transformation. As the modern state took shape in response to disruption in Rowntree’s time, today’s world faces even greater challenges—from deepening economic inequality to a retreating state, leaving families with growing insecurity.
As faith in the political and economic models of recent decades erodes, a turning point has yet to emerge. Urgent, innovative thinking is needed to confront the extreme challenges of our time.
Join the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and Prospect for a thought-provoking series of evening events exploring bold ideas for meaningful change—and the visionaries driving them forward.
The series includes three evening events:
- 14th May: Wealth, Power and Liberal Democracy
- 3rd June: Rebuilding the UK’s economy: towards a new social and economic settlement
- 9th June: Confronting the housing crisis: The bold steps needed to deliver affordable homes for all
