Prospect editor Bronwen Maddox in conversation with one of Britain's most renowned authors and broadcasters, Jeremy Paxman, to mark the launch of his new book and TV Series: Great Britain's Great War.
Tuesday 29th October, 7pm
The Royal Geographical Society, 1 Kensington Gore, London, SW7 2AR
What was life actually like for the British during the First World War? The images we have of the First World War -- a Tommy buried in the mud of the Western Front; the pointing finger of Lord Kitchener; the memorial poppies of remembrance day -- all reinforce the idea that it was, in the end, an utterly pointless waste of life, and very little more. So why did we fight it so willingly and how did we endure it for so long?
Paxman, in setting out the controversial argument of his book, will show previously unseen photographs. Followed by questions from the audience.
Prospect subscribers: £12.50
General ticket: £16.50
General ticket + 3 month subscription to Prospect: £19.50
General ticket + copy of Great Britain's Great War: £25
