Prospect writer Jack Shenker claimed the prize for environment story of the year at last night's Foreign Press Association awards. For his excellent piece of reportage, "Exodus," he travelled to the semi-autonomous, central Asian nation of Karakalpakstan, where thousands have been displaced by environmental disaster and rising nationalism. You can hear his photographer, Jason Larkin, discussing his photos Karakalpakstan's dessicated Aral sea here.
Prospect's editor Bronwen Maddox accepted the award on behalf of Jack Shenker, who is currently reporting from Cairo. Prospect writers Sam Knight and John Kay were also shortlisted in the Arts and Culture story and the Financial/Economic story categories. Read Sam Knight's "Lot 800: the Bainbridge vase" here and "A good crisis gone to waste" by John Kay here.
