Peter Kellner, President of YouGov, offered his analysis of the European parliamentary election results at a roundtable discussion held this morning at Prospect's offices in London. Also present were diplomatic representatives of EU member states including Denmark, Ireland, Italy and Sweden, economists, business leaders and two representatives of the eurosceptic tendency in British politics—the Conservative MP Bill Cash and Stuart Wheeler, until recently the treasurer of Ukip.

Listen here to a recording of Kellner's analysis of the appeal of Ukip and nationalist parties elsewhere in Europe, together with a brief exchange with Prospect's managing editor Jonathan Derbyshire over the kind of response mainstream, pro-European politicians ought to be offering to Ukip-style populism.
